Welcome to the Just Umbrella web site: with your help we can place ourselves at the centre of the fight against institutionalised xenophobia within the European Legal Space. Above all, we hope to make this a rallying point for activists: people who are concerned about the state we are in. We hope that within this web site, you will find inspiration and ways that you can help.
The mission of The Just Umbrella (TJU) is to foster the removal of obstacles with a foreign element to justice within an EU or national context. The overall aim being to fill in the gaps where they are not properly filled by existing arrangements or established NGOs.
We are Task orientated: here are some examples of problems that have arisen
- Prisoners treated unfairly for purposes of parole or release because of discrimination as foreigners
- Victims of crime without Justice because investigative authorities are not investigating the crime properly either because they are foreigners or foreign evidence is not procured.
- Foreigners who have suffered civil wrongs such as personal injury without real possibility of compensation. We are particularly concerned about the need for effective grouping for victims of criminal injury overseas.
- Anomalies concerning age of criminal responsibility in the European Union.
- Anomalies concerning basic principles of civil liability within European Union. The principle of dual liability between nations for enforcement of damages corresponding to the principle of dual criminality in European arrest warrant cases …
We propose to do tackle them in three ways:
- By nurturing and promoting individuals and groups with specific and practical approaches to solving such obstacles. If you consider yourself amongst the please contact us directly.
